An interesting fact? In the UK, more miles of canals than of railways were built in the 1830s, and just one new railway bill passed through the parliamentary sessions of 1840 and 1841. (source: Simon Bradley - The Railways).
From Readwse: My collection of saved notes reflects a strong critical eye toward conservative leadership—such as tracking criticisms of Tory governance and policies—as well as an affinity for social-democratic ideas, worker solidarity, and public services like the NHS.

It’s a lazy Sunday morning. Coffee and toast, and a little reading and writing to start the day off.
No, the heating is not on here. The thermostat is still one degree about the threshold! In any case, It’s not cold. I’m sitting here, at my desk, in t-shirt and shorts.
2.15 pm, Sunday. The sun is out, and I’m outside sitting on my patio with a mug of lemon balm tea (just makes a change from coffee, and I’ve had 4 mugs already). I think a beer might be a good idea next…

Wednesday morning. Third day out of five. That’s 3 5.30 alarm calls done out of five, only two to do. Thing is, when I’m not at work, I’m often awake by 5.30 am anyway, but 5.30 am on a day off can be pleasant!
Well, it’s just after 9 pm on Wednesday. Two more days at the salt mine and then three day break on Sunday we’re off to Brooklands Which is always an interesting day out
9pm Thursday evening. Time to go to bed. Last alarm call tomorrow, then three days off!
It’s 5.15 am. Day off. Wide awake. Think I’ll go make coffee.
